Self Assessments

Before you apply, there are several very important considerations to take into account. First, a service dog must be medically necessary. Second, the physical difficulty of training a service dog can vary based on the tasks involved. Make sure if you are physically able, or have a committed able bodied person to facilitate training. The duration of training can range from several months to a few years. The minimum for conformation with our program is recorded 120 hours of obedience and task training, and 30 hours of public access training. It’s a demanding but rewarding process that requires dedication, patience, and consistency from both the train and the dog’s handler. Third, If you are already training a potential partner, evaluate obedience and task levels objectively. Our intake process includes a virtual or in person evaluation of your status as a prospect, service dog in training, or ready for confirmation (NOT Required under ADA) as a service dog team. This evaluation may determine, that as a team, you move forward, backtrack on specific training, or even skip next level assignments
